Evaluations in San Pedro Garza García (Río de la Plata 113, Col. Del Valle), minutes from Monterrey.

What is keratoconus?
Keratoconus is a disease in which the cornea thins and bulges into a cone shape. It causes blurry vision and astigmatism that changes frequently. It usually appears in adolescence or young adulthood and can progress over the years.
Corneal crosslinking strengthens the cornea to stop or slow keratoconus. Riboflavin (vitamin B2) drops are applied and the cornea is then illuminated with controlled ultraviolet light; during the procedure the cornea shows a characteristic yellow-green glow.

Frequently asked questions
Does crosslinking cure keratoconus?
Its main goal is to stop or slow progression. In some patients the cornea flattens slightly and vision improves, but glasses, contact lenses or other treatments are usually still needed to see better.
Does it hurt?
Not during the procedure, thanks to anesthetic drops. Discomfort and light sensitivity are common during the first days and are controlled with medication.
Why is early treatment important?
The earlier keratoconus is stopped, the better vision is preserved. If it advances a lot, a corneal transplant may eventually be needed.
How do I know if my keratoconus is progressing?
With corneal imaging, such as topography or tomography, comparing results over time. Frequent changes in your prescription, especially astigmatism, can also be a sign.
