REFRACTIVE SURGERY

Refractive laser surgery, LASIK and FemtoLASIK

Less dependence on glasses

Refractive surgery corrects the eye’s prescription to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses. It treats nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia.

We offer LASIK, FemtoLASIK and lens-based surgery in San Pedro Garza García, Monterrey. A complete evaluation determines the best option for you.

What can it correct?

  • Nearsightedness (myopia): blurry distance vision.
  • Farsightedness (hyperopia): blurry near vision and eye strain when reading.
  • Astigmatism: blurry or distorted vision at all distances.
  • Presbyopia: difficulty focusing up close after age 40.

Treatment options

LASIK and FemtoLASIK

The laser reshapes the cornea so light focuses correctly on the retina. In FemtoLASIK, a femtosecond laser prepares the cornea with great precision. Visual recovery is usually fast and no hospital stay is needed.

Phakic intraocular lens

A lens is placed inside the eye without removing your natural lens. It is an alternative for high prescriptions or when the cornea is not suitable for laser.

Refractive lens exchange

The natural lens is replaced with an intraocular lens. Multifocal or extended depth of focus lenses also correct presbyopia, so it is a common choice after age 40.

Am I a candidate?

A complete evaluation decides: your prescription, the shape and thickness of your cornea, and the health of the rest of the eye. In general, the prescription should be stable. The evaluation includes visual acuity, refraction, corneal topography and a retina exam.

Surgery day

It is an outpatient procedure with numbing drops. We give you protective glasses for recovery and schedule your follow-up visits. You also get direct support by WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

Does laser surgery hurt?

Numbing drops are used, so the procedure does not hurt. Afterwards you may feel mild burning or discomfort for a few hours.

When will I see well?

Many patients notice improvement the next day. Vision finishes stabilizing over the following weeks.

Are the results permanent?

The laser correction is permanent. However, the eye keeps changing with age; for example, presbyopia may appear after 40.

What if I am not a candidate for LASIK?

There are other options, such as a phakic intraocular lens or refractive lens exchange. We explain which is right for you at your evaluation.

What is the difference between LASIK and FemtoLASIK?

Both correct your prescription with a laser on the cornea. In FemtoLASIK, the first step of the procedure is also done with a laser, which gives great precision.
