Frequently asked questions
How much does an intravitreal injection cost in Monterrey?
The cost mainly depends on the medication used (for example aflibercept, ranibizumab or faricimab) and on the materials used during the procedure. At your visit we review your tests, explain which medication is best for your condition and give you a personalized quote. We also guide you if you have private health insurance.
Does the eye injection hurt?
Anesthetic drops are used, so most patients only feel pressure for a few seconds. Mild discomfort may last a few hours.
How many injections will I need?
It depends on the disease and how your retina responds. Many treatments start with one injection a month for three months, then are spaced out based on OCT results.
When should I seek urgent care after an injection?
If you have severe pain, increasing redness, discharge or a significant drop in vision in the following days, contact us right away: it could be an infection, which is rare but urgent.
Does insurance cover them?
Many health insurance plans cover intravitreal injections. We will guide you through the process when you book.
How long does it take for the injection to work?
The medication starts working within the first few days. Many patients notice better vision within 1 to 4 weeks, although a series of injections is usually needed to achieve and maintain the result. At each visit we measure the response with retinal imaging (OCT).
What is the best injection for macular degeneration?
There is no single best medication for everyone. The choice depends on the type of macular degeneration, how your retina responds, how often you need treatment and your insurance coverage. After your evaluation and tests, we explain the options and choose the most suitable one together.
